Shubman Gill Tipped for ODI Captaincy as Rohit's Retirement Looms

According to former Indian batter Mohammad Kaif, Shubman Gill is poised to take over as India's ODI captain in the near future, as the uncertainty around Rohit Sharma's continued leadership looms. Gill, who was appointed as India's Test captain ahead of the England series, has now proven his mettle both as a captain and a batter.

Gill led the Indian team to a 2-2 draw in the five-match Test series against England, which Kaif described as a "massive achievement" for the young leader. Gill was the standout performer, scoring 754 runs at an impressive average of 75.40, including four centuries. His exceptional performances earned him the 'Player of the Series' award.

Kaif believes that Gill's success as Test captain, coupled with his consistent run-scoring in white-ball cricket, makes him the ideal candidate to take over the ODI captaincy from Rohit Sharma. The former cricketer noted that with Rohit's future in international cricket uncertain, Gill is ready to step up and lead the team in the 50-over format as well.

Kaif praised Gill's ability to lead from the front, both with his bat and his calm and composed captaincy. He highlighted Gill's resilience in handling the pressure of leading a young Indian team and his ability to bounce back after a heated altercation with the English players in the Lord's Test. Kaif believes that Gill's leadership skills will only improve with time, making him a strong contender for the ODI captaincy.
