Shohei Ohtani's celebrated canine companion, Decoy, has transitioned from MVP announcement guest to children's book protagonist. Ohtani, alongside co-author Michael Blank, released "Decoy Saves Opening Day" in February, marking his literary debut. The book's narrative centers on Decoy's quest to retrieve a lucky baseball before throwing the ceremonial first pitch.
This project aims to raise awareness, with all proceeds from book sales supporting non-profit animal rescue organizations. Decoy, identified as a lively Dutch Kooikerhondje, has garnered significant attention, including throwing out the first pitch at Dodger Stadium. Recently, a 28-foot mural was unveiled at the new Pawradise Park in Los Angeles, depicting a memorable high-five between Ohtani and Decoy.
Ohtani and his wife, Mamiko, also established the Shohei Ohtani Family Foundation late last year. The foundation's efforts, combined with the book's proceeds, underscore a commitment to animal welfare and community support.
