Summary
- Shedeur Sanders will wear jersey No. 2 for the Browns in 2026.
- He previously wore No. 12 due to DeAndre Carter holding No. 2.
- Sanders' No. 2 jersey was retired at Jackson State and Colorado.
Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders will wear jersey number 2 for the 2026 NFL season. This decision signifies a return to the iconic number he and his father, Deion Sanders, had retired at their respective alma maters, Jackson State and Colorado. During his rookie season in 2025, Sanders wore number 12 because wide receiver DeAndre Carter occupied number 2.
Carter, who was on a one-year deal with the Browns and is now a free agent, has vacated the number, making it available for Sanders. Sanders' college jersey was retired by Colorado alongside Travis Hunter's number 12. His father, Deion Sanders, also had his number 2 retired by Florida State in 1995.
Sanders' No. 12 jersey proved popular in his draft class, ranking as the fifth-most sold among NFL players from March to July 2025. Despite starting deep on the depth chart, Sanders was thrust into the starting quarterback role for the Browns' final seven games of the 2025 season, leading the team to a 3-4 record. He threw for 1,400 yards, seven touchdowns, and 10 interceptions in eight appearances, earning an AFC Pro Bowl selection as a replacement.
