Sesa Football Academy's senior women's team has secured a historic qualification for the Indian Women's League (IWL), marking their debut in the prestigious national tournament. This significant achievement restores Goa's presence in the IWL after a three-year gap, reigniting excitement for women's football in the state. The team is set to compete in the ninth edition of the IWL, with the initial phase commencing in West Bengal on December 20.
The qualification places Sesa Football Academy among an elite group, becoming only the fifth team from Goa to reach this level. Armando Colaco, a renowned Dronacharya Awardee, lauded the development, calling it a revival of women's football in Goa. He commended the academy for its role in rebuilding the sport's ecosystem and inspiring young female athletes.
Navin Jaju, CEO of Vedanta Sesa Goa, emphasized that this success underscores the academy's dedication to grassroots women's football development and empowerment. The 'Gear for Gold' initiative by Infosys Foundation and GoSports Foundation was also highlighted, aiming to support a broader range of athletes across six disciplines, further bolstering sports development in India.
