29 Nov
Summary
- Two seniors, aged 81 and 77, are set for their first powerlifting contest.
- They train at Body Mentors gym in Hildenborough, Kent.
- Participants will compete in the South East Powerlifting contest in Maidstone.

In a remarkable display of determination, two Kent residents, David Wallis, 81, and Rachel Glenny, 77, are preparing for their inaugural powerlifting competitions this Sunday. They will be participating in the South East Powerlifting contest, held in Maidstone.
Wallis, the elder of the two, is set to attempt a 120kg deadlift. His wife, though calling him mad, will be present to support him. Glenny, a grandmother, discovered weightlifting in 2023 to manage a back issue, with her trainer recommending strength building as a solution.
Glenny expressed her satisfaction with maintaining muscle strength for everyday life, including keeping up with her children and grandchildren. She humorously notes she's still outperforming her 39-year-old son in weight training, emphasizing the ongoing benefits of the sport regardless of age.
