Senegal's World Cup shirt omits AFCON star after controversy
21 Mar
Summary
- Senegal's new World Cup shirt features only one star, not two.
- Production deadlines prevented adding a second star for AFCON title.
- Senegal disputes AFCON title reversal and plans appeal.

Senegal's 2026 World Cup jerseys, released recently, display only a single star, sparking questions about their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title. Sports manufacturer Puma produced the kits prior to the tournament, thus production deadlines prevented an immediate update. The Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) explained that manufacturing constraints meant the initial batch of shirts could not include a second star.
However, the FSF assured supporters that new jerseys featuring both stars are currently in production and will be available by September. This clarification follows a controversial decision by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to overturn Senegal's 1-0 victory over Morocco in the AFCON final. CAF declared Senegal forfeited, awarding the title to Morocco.
The FSF has deemed the verdict "unfair" and intends to appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport. The Senegalese government has also called for an investigation into alleged corruption within CAF and indicated legal action. Morocco's own World Cup shirts, also made by Puma, do not feature stars for any of their AFCON wins.
