Seiya Suzuki is set to fulfill a lifelong ambition by playing a significant offensive role for Team Japan in the upcoming World Baseball Classic. This comes after a frustrating withdrawal from the 2023 tournament due to a left oblique injury, forcing him to watch his team clinch the title from afar.
Suzuki previously competed for Japan in the 2017 WBC. His 2025 season saw career-best performances, including 32 home runs and 103 RBIs. He also posted a .478 slugging percentage and demonstrated strong offensive form late in the season and into the postseason.
Team Japan is slated to compete in Pool C, with games scheduled in Tokyo from March 5-10. Suzuki plans to remain with the Cubs through the upcoming weekend, departing for the tournament on February 23. He is among eight Cubs players participating in this year's WBC, including Pete Crow-Armstrong for Team USA.
