Sean Sweeney, currently an associate head coach with the San Antonio Spurs, is reportedly the leading candidate for the Chicago Bulls' head coaching position. The Bulls are actively filling the vacancy left by Billy Donovan's departure in April. Sweeney's candidacy has gained significant traction, making him a strong favorite in Chicago's coaching search.
His coaching journey began in 2011 as a video coordinator for the New Jersey Nets, progressing to an assistant coach role before moving to the Milwaukee Bucks, Detroit Pistons, and Dallas Mavericks. Sweeney joined the Spurs in June 2025. His extensive experience across various organizations makes him a well-regarded candidate.
Bryson Graham was recently appointed as the Bulls' Executive VP of Basketball Operations, influencing the team's strategic decisions. Sweeney's situation is further complicated as he is still with the Spurs, who are currently competing in the Western Conference Semifinals against the Timberwolves.
