Seahawks Eye Steelers Safety Amidst Defense Shake-Up
26 Mar
Summary
- Seahawks need defensive help after Coby Bryant's departure.
- DeShon Elliott is a trade target to fill a safety gap.
- Steelers may trade Elliott due to new safety signings.

The Seattle Seahawks' defensive strategy faced a significant adjustment this offseason with the departure of safety Coby Bryant to the Chicago Bears. As the team utilized three safeties in its 2025 defensive scheme, a need has emerged for additional talent, with only Julian Love and Nick Emmanwori currently considered starting caliber.
Trade speculation suggests the Seahawks could pursue Pittsburgh Steelers' safety DeShon Elliott to address this gap. Elliott, who had his 2025 season cut short by a knee injury in October, is seen as a starting-caliber player capable of playing multiple safety positions. The Steelers' recent signings of Jaquan Brisker and Darnell Savage might make them more amenable to trading Elliott, potentially lowering his role.
However, the likelihood of such a trade remains questionable. Elliott is considered a key defensive piece for the Steelers. While new additions like Brisker and Savage have been made, Savage may be intended more for depth. Furthermore, the signing of Jamel Dean is expected to shift Jalen Ramsey back to a slot role, reinforcing the existing safety structure. Consequently, a trade involving Elliott appears improbable.
