Santos Face Crucial Sudamericana Clash
6 May
Summary
- Santos must win to keep qualification hopes alive.
- The team is currently at the bottom of Group D.
- Santos faces Recoleta in Paraguay on Tuesday.
Santos faces a must-win situation this Tuesday, May 5th, at 9:30 p.m. (Brasília time), as they take on Recoleta in Paraguay for the 2026 Conmebol Sudamericana group stage. Currently, Santos sits at the bottom of Group D with just two points, making qualification highly improbable without a victory.
Recoleta currently has three points in the group standings. Other teams in Group D, Deportivo Cuenca and San Lorenzo, have four and five points respectively, and will play later that evening. Santos’ coach, Cuca, has adjusted the lineup from their last match, bringing in João Ananias and Neymar, while Luan Peres and Barreal are out.
In the Sudamericana tournament, only the top team in each group directly advances to the round of 16. Second-place finishers will enter a playoff round against teams eliminated from the Copa Libertadores.
