Saints Seek Running Back Reinforcements Ahead of Season

As the 2025 NFL season approaches, the New Orleans Saints have been busy on the trade market, and they aren't done yet. According to reports, the Saints are among several teams searching for help at the running back position to support their star player, Alvin Kamara.

The Saints have struggled to find a reliable tag-team partner for Kamara. Rookie Kendre Miller has shown promise, but durability concerns linger due to his injury history. Velus Jones Jr., a former wide receiver, is the only rusher averaging more than 3 yards per carry in the preseason so far. The team is also looking to get more production from players like Clyde Edwards-Helaire and Cam Akers.

The Saints are reportedly eyeing several potential trade targets, including Brian Robinson Jr. of the Washington Commanders. Robinson had a breakout season in 2024 with 799 rushing yards and 8 touchdowns, but he has fallen out of favor in Washington. Other names to watch include Ty Chandler of the Minnesota Vikings and Emanuel Wilson of the Green Bay Packers.

With the roster cut deadline looming on August 26th, the Saints will be looking to make a move to bolster their backfield. They've already made several trades this offseason, including acquiring defensive tackle Davon Godchaux and wide receiver Devaughn Vele.
