The Buffalo Sabres have significantly strengthened their defensive corps with the acquisition of Olen Zellweger from the Anaheim Ducks. This move occurred on Friday, in exchange for center prospect Anton Wahlberg and the 45th overall selection in the 2026 NHL Draft.
Zellweger, originally a second-round pick by the Ducks in 2021, made his highly anticipated NHL debut in January 2024. Last season, the 22-year-old defenseman registered 22 points, with 15 assists, and added two points in three playoff games.
In return, the Ducks acquired Wahlberg, whom the Sabres selected 39th overall in the 2023 draft. The 20-year-old Wahlberg has yet to play in the NHL but recorded 38 points, including 29 assists, in 68 games for AHL Rochester last season. With the addition of the 45th pick, Anaheim now possesses seven selections in the 2026 NHL Draft.
