World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka faces a critical juncture at the WTA 1000 event in Toronto, where her top ranking is up for grabs. Sabalenka has demonstrated exceptional form on hard courts this year, winning 23 out of 24 matches, with her sole defeat occurring in the Australian Open final.

However, her performance on other surfaces has been less dominant, with early exits at Roland Garros and Wimbledon. If Sabalenka does not advance to the Round of 16 in Toronto, Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan could claim the World No. 1 ranking by winning the tournament.

Sabalenka has recently returned to competition after a break following Wimbledon, expressing a desire to "forget about tennis" and recharge. She reported feeling rested and ready to compete, aiming to reassert her dominance on court.

The draw features strong competitors, including Jessica Pegula, Amanda Anisimova, and Iga Swiatek in Sabalenka's half, and Coco Gauff, Naomi Osaka, and Linda Noskova in Rybakina's half.
