She conveyed sadness that the intention behind the "Battle of the Sexes" event was misunderstood, stating that it was a fun challenge designed to draw significant attention to the sport. Sabalenka asserted that the match proved tennis exhibitions could capture widespread interest, contrary to some critics' views.

The exhibition match, organized by the agency representing both players, generated controversy. Critics questioned its primary motivation, suggesting it was mainly for broadcast ratings and financial gain. This debate intensified with discussions surrounding Nick Kyrgios's past controversies.
