Ohio State Buckeyes head coach Ryan Day is pushing for a notable change to "The Game," the intense rivalry between Ohio State and Michigan. Day believes adjusting the stakes of this annual matchup could make it even more compelling within the evolving landscape of college football. Specifically, he has proposed that the game should serve as a critical elimination or seeding event for the College Football Playoff.
This proposed shift comes as college football is looking toward a potential expansion of the playoff system to 24 teams. Day suggests that "The Game" could function as a direct play-in game for the playoff or significantly impact a team's seeding and potential first-round bye. He articulated that such a structure would elevate the rivalry's intensity, ensuring its continued fierce nature and high stakes in the modern era of college athletics.
