DFB-Pokal: Underdogs Essen Host Giants Leipzig
27 Oct
Summary
- RW Essen advanced in DFB-Pokal for the first time in four years.
- RB Leipzig dominated Elversberg with a 4-0 victory in their league.
- Key strikers are injured for both RW Essen and RB Leipzig.
RW Essen is set to host RB Leipzig in the DFB-Pokal, a fixture that occurred three seasons ago. After a near-promotion miss, RW Essen currently sits in a similar league position to the previous season, though they are strong at home.
Essen achieved their first DFB-Pokal second-round appearance in four years, overcoming St. Pauli with goals from Marek Janssen and Semir Telalovic. In contrast, RB Leipzig recently achieved a commanding 4-0 victory over Elversberg in the Bundesliga, showcasing a potent offense.
However, both clubs are facing injury concerns. RW Essen's attacking options are limited with Semir Telalovic out due to a shoulder injury and Jaka Cuber Potocnik also sidelined. RB Leipzig's squad is affected by the absence of Christoph Nkunku and Maxime Esteve.
Antonio Nusa notably scored on his debut when these teams last met in the cup, but he might be rested along with other key players to manage their schedule against Schalke and Manchester City.
