- Hobbs resigned in August 2024 following an investigation into his relationship and the gymnastics program.

The wife of former Rutgers Athletics Director Patrick Hobbs has initiated divorce proceedings, citing irreconcilable differences that have caused an irretrievable breakdown of their marriage. Patrice Hobbs revealed that her husband's alleged relationship with former Rutgers gymnastics coach Umme Salim-Beasley was the reason for the marital dissolution, stating their "true love" meant everything to him.
Patrick Hobbs resigned from his athletic director role on August 16, 2024, shortly before a scheduled investigation into a consensual relationship with Salim-Beasley. This followed a separate inquiry by former New Jersey State Comptroller Matthew Boxer, which found Hobbs should have recused himself from supervising Salim-Beasley when she received bonuses and pay raises.
Adding to the ongoing scandal, Salim-Beasley filed a wrongful termination lawsuit last month. She claims university officials orchestrated a "witch-hunt" and engaged in "public scapegoating" to remove her from her seven-year coaching position. The legal actions and investigations continue to unfold surrounding the former Rutgers athletics director.
