Course records tumbled as over 8,000 participants energized the annual Run Norwich 10km event, which took place on Sunday. This popular race not only celebrated athletic achievement but also served as a significant fundraiser for the Norwich City Community Sports Foundation (CSF) and various other charities.
In the women's category, debutante Daisy Glover, an NHS worker, achieved a remarkable course record, crossing the finish line in 33 minutes and 26 seconds. The men's race saw Cambridgeshire teacher Jonathan Escalante-Phillips achieve a historic feat, becoming the first competitor to complete the course in under 30 minutes, with a time of 29 minutes and 59 seconds.
The CSF estimates that approximately 20,000 spectators lined the route, offering enthusiastic support. Philippe Clement, head coach of Norwich City Football Club, officially started the race. Entries for the event, which opened in March, were reportedly sold out within a swift 28 minutes.
Ian Thornton, chief executive of CSF, expressed profound gratitude for the community's involvement, highlighting that each race number represents a unique personal story that contributes to the event's enduring specialness year after year.
