Summary
- 12th seed Rublev beats qualifier Fearnley in straight sets

The 2025 Paris Masters is underway, and 12th seed Andrey Rublev has advanced to the second round after a straight-sets victory over qualifier Jacob Fearnley. Rublev breezed through the opening set, claiming it 6-1, and then maintained his momentum to go 2-0 up in the second set. However, Fearnley fought back to level the score, forcing Rublev to break the Brit's serve one last time to secure a 6-1, 6-4 win.
In the other first-round match, American teenager Learner Tien faced off against Nuno Borges. Tien outplayed his opponent in the first set, breaking Borges' serve twice to claim the set 6-2. The second set was a closer affair, with Tien gaining the upper hand and leading by a break for most of the set. However, Borges made a late push to force a tiebreaker, but Tien ultimately prevailed 7-6(7) to register a 6-2, 7-6(7) victory.
Rublev and Tien have met twice already this year, with Tien winning their first encounter in Washington in straight sets, and Rublev turning the tables on him a few weeks later in Cincinnati. Their second-round clash at the Paris Masters promises to be an intriguing matchup between two players in good form.
