Rubel Hossain Calls Time on International Cricket Career

Veteran Bangladesh fast bowler Rubel Hossain has officially retired from international cricket, concluding a career that saw him represent his country 159 times. The 36-year-old made the announcement via social media, expressing his enduring passion for the national team but acknowledging the need to step away from international commitments. Hossain's international journey included 27 Test matches, 104 One Day Internationals, and 28 T20 Internationals.

Throughout his career, Hossain was known for his pace and ability to take crucial wickets, particularly in limited-overs formats. A standout performance for many fans was his match-winning spell against England during the ICC Cricket World Cup in 2015 held in Adelaide. Despite facing injuries that limited his recent involvement, he affirmed his intention to continue playing in domestic competitions.

Hossain's career began in 2009 after being discovered in a nationwide talent hunt. He made an immediate impression on his ODI debut, becoming the first Bangladeshi bowler to take four wickets. He concluded his ODI career with 129 wickets, making him one of Bangladesh's leading wicket-takers in the format, and also recorded a memorable 6-wicket haul against New Zealand in 2013, which included a hat-trick.
