14 Mar
Summary
- Four rowers are circumnavigating Britain to raise £57 million for MND research.
- The team has faced brutal conditions including low temperatures, gales, and heavy seas.
- They recently landed in Scotland after rowing from Northern Ireland.

The Row4MND team has reached Scotland, marking a significant milestone in their ambitious challenge to row around Great Britain. Disembarking in Port Logan, Dumfries and Galloway, the four-person crew endured an overnight row from Northern Ireland. Their mission is to raise £57 million, a substantial sum dedicated to finding a cure for motor neurone disease (MND).
The rowers have faced extreme weather, including low temperatures, fierce gales, and rough seas, describing the experience as 'brutal.' Despite these hardships, co-founder Matt Parker expressed that the challenge, though difficult, is profoundly rewarding. The crew aims to complete their circumnavigation of Great Britain by traversing the remaining Scottish coastline, including the Western Isles, and plans to relaunch in early May.
Looking beyond this current endeavor, the team has set their sights on even greater challenges. In 2027, they intend to cross the Pacific from California to Hawaii, followed by an attempt at the world record row between New York and London in 2028. Row4MND is supporting three charities actively involved in MND research: the Motor Neurone Disease Association, the My Name'5 Doddie Foundation, and Leeds Hospitals Charity.
