19 Jul
Summary
- Shedeur Sanders, a Colorado Buffaloes legend, is currently 4th on the Browns' QB depth chart
- Sanders plans to "put in the work" and "be legendary" as he fights for the starting job
- Sanders' progression during OTAs and minicamp was slower than his QB counterparts

Shedeur Sanders, a former Colorado Buffaloes football star, is currently battling to climb out of the 4th spot on the Cleveland Browns' quarterback depth chart and secure the starting job. In a recent video posted to Instagram, Sanders made it clear that he plans to "be legendary" in the NFL.
Despite the uphill challenge, Sanders remains undeterred. "You know, no excuses. I'll put in the work and do what I have to do. (About) to be time to be legendary, whenever that time is," he said. However, Sanders' progression during the Browns' recent OTAs and minicamp was slower than his QB counterparts, Dillon Gabriel, Kenny Pickett, and Joe Flacco. He worked with a smaller playbook and went up against primarily backup players.
The Browns surprised many by selecting Sanders in the 5th round of the 2023 NFL Draft, shortly after taking Gabriel in the 3rd round. While Sanders' college experience is extensive, with 70.1% completion rate, 14,347 passing yards, 134 touchdowns, and 27 interceptions across Jackson State and Colorado, the team believes his volume and diversity of experience trails that of Gabriel. Nevertheless, the Browns were impressed by Sanders' arm strength and playmaking abilities on the concepts he did run during the offseason program.
As the Browns' training camp kicks off, Sanders will have to prove himself and outperform his counterparts to earn the starting quarterback job. With his determination to "be legendary," the rookie is ready to put in the work and make his mark in the NFL.
