Rookie QB Jaxson Dart Impresses Giants Coaches in Training Camp
28 Jul
Summary
- Dart's best practice since being drafted by Giants
- Dart learning from veteran QBs Wilson, Winston, and DeVito
- Dart feeling the game "slowing down" as he gains experience

In his first week of NFL training camp with the New York Giants, rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart is already making a strong impression. During Sunday's practice, Dart's performance was marked as his best since the Giants traded up to draft him in the first round this past April.
After the practice session, Dart spoke to reporters, noting that he is "learning every second" he spends around veteran quarterbacks Russell Wilson, Jameis Winston, and Tommy DeVito. This exposure is allowing Dart to process the game at a progressively higher level, as he feels the pace of the game "slowing down" compared to his initial days in camp.
Dart explained that on the first and second days, there were plays he hadn't run before, and he was trying to get his timing down with unfamiliar teammates. However, heading into Sunday's practice, Dart felt more confident in the team's different offensive installations. The coaches also gave him more freedom to make checks and decisions, which enabled Dart to play faster and make quicker decisions.
While Giants head coach Brian Daboll has made it clear that Wilson is the team's starting quarterback, the backup role remains up for grabs. Dart is focused on executing plays to the best of his ability, rather than worrying about potential depth chart scenarios. But his continued development could make him a compelling option as Wilson's understudy throughout the regular season.
