Summary
- Ron Francis will leave his position as president of hockey operations.
- The Seattle Kraken are currently in their fifth season of play.
- The team is tied for the fourth-fewest points in the NHL.
Ron Francis announced Wednesday that he will be stepping down as president of hockey operations for the Seattle Kraken at the conclusion of the current season. The 63-year-old's departure from the role, to which he was promoted last April, was described as a mutual agreement to facilitate a new direction for the team.
Francis's leadership was credited with building the franchise from its inception. The Kraken, in their fifth season, are currently struggling with a 32-34-11 record and have lost 10 of their last 11 games. They are tied with the New York Rangers for the fourth-fewest points (75) in the NHL.
Barring a significant late-season turnaround, the Kraken are projected to miss the playoffs for the third consecutive year. Their last playoff appearance was in the 2022-23 season, where they were eliminated in the second round. Francis stated it was an honor to help launch the team and is proud of the culture and milestones achieved.
