Young Maharashtra cricketer Ayush Mhatre recently fulfilled a lifelong dream by meeting his idol, Indian star Rohit Sharma. The encounter occurred before Mhatre's departure for a tour of England, during which Sharma gifted the aspiring player a cricket bat. Mhatre described the meeting as surreal, recalling how Sharma readily agreed to meet him in person despite living in Virar, even inviting him to his home.

The two spent nearly two hours talking, a duration Mhatre found incredibly valuable, considering Sharma his lifelong idol. This significant interaction seems to have boosted Mhatre's confidence, as he went on to have a highly successful tour to England. He played a crucial role in his side's 3-2 Youth ODI series win and also amassed 340 runs across four innings in the Youth Test series. Mhatre, who was retained by the Chennai Super Kings in 2025, has continued to impress, scoring 240 runs and establishing himself as a reliable player. His journey, marked by this memorable meeting with Sharma, suggests a bright future, with further encounters, perhaps even on the field, potentially on the horizon.
