Summary
- Rockies to promote No. 26 prospect McCade Brown for Sunday's game
- Brown, a 2021 3rd-round pick, has struggled with injuries in minors
- Rockies release Austin Gomber, exploring options from farm system

On August 22, 2025, the Colorado Rockies announced they will promote their top pitching prospect, McCade Brown, for his MLB debut in Sunday's game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Brown, ranked 26th on the Rockies' prospect list, will make the short trip from Double-A Hartford to join the big league club.
The 23-year-old Brown was a third-round pick in the 2021 MLB Draft, but his career has been marked by health issues. At Indiana University, he pitched just 67 2/3 innings over three years due to various setbacks. After joining the Rockies organization, he showed promise in Low-A Fresno, earning an 11.8 K/9 rate in 89 2/3 innings.
However, Brown's progress was derailed in April 2023 when he underwent Tommy John surgery, sidelining him until May 2024. That season, he made only 12 appearances between the Arizona Complex League and Low-A Fresno, struggling with a 6.85 ERA and 1.56 WHIP. But he bounced back in the Arizona Fall League, posting a 3.18 ERA with 12.7 K/9 in 11 1/3 innings.
The Rockies' decision to promote Brown comes on the heels of their announcement to unconditionally release Austin Gomber earlier today. This move suggests the team is actively exploring options from their farm system to bolster their pitching staff.
