The Houston Rockets currently hold the best record in the Western Conference, standing at 7-1 and leading the standings. This impressive start includes victories over tough opponents like the San Antonio Spurs and Oklahoma City Thunder. The team also boasts the NBA's top net rating, indicating strong overall performance.
Fred VanVleet has been instrumental in the Rockets' early success since returning from a season-ending ACL injury. He is contributing 12.2 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 6.8 assists per game. Kevin Garnett, a Basketball Hall of Famer, recently praised VanVleet's stability, organization, and leadership, noting how his presence elevates the performance of teammates like Alperen Sengun.
VanVleet, a former Toronto Raptors championship player and All-Star, joined the Rockets in 2023. He is now the primary floor general for the team's young core, including players like Sengun, Amen Thompson, and Jabari Smith Jr. His veteran presence allows these younger players to focus on their strengths, as Kevin Durant does as an efficient scorer and Amen Thompson as a multipositional threat. The Rockets appear poised for a deep playoff run.
