Khanchandra Singh, the father of Indian cricketer Rinku Singh, passed away in the early hours of Friday, February 27. His death followed a lengthy struggle with stage four liver cancer. He had been receiving treatment at Yatharth Hospital in Greater Noida.
The news emerged following India's win over Zimbabwe in a T20 World Cup 2026 match. Rinku Singh, who was part of the squad, had previously taken a leave of absence from the tournament to be with his father when he was on ventilator support. He rejoined the team for the recent match but has now departed again.
BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed that Rinku Singh left Chennai at 5 am on Friday to be at his father's side. Consequently, the cricketer will not be traveling with the team to Kolkata for their upcoming Super 8 fixture against the West Indies on March 1. The cricket fraternity has offered condolences for Rinku Singh's loss.
