Greene's Elbow Stiffness: Reds Face Uncertain Pitching Future

Cincinnati Reds ace Hunter Greene is scheduled for an MRI to assess the cause of right elbow stiffness he has experienced since the conclusion of last season. Greene indicated to reporters that he does not have any damage to his ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) but is dealing with bone spurs. He is set to consult with orthopedic specialists to determine the best course of action.

Greene expressed uncertainty about his availability for the season's opening day, stating his primary goal is to be ready for a potential playoff push if treatment allows. He noted that he experienced discomfort in his final starts last year while the Reds were in contention. Despite receiving an injection during the offseason and managing the issue in early camp, Reds manager Terry Francona observed that Greene's recovery has not met expectations.

Greene, who posted a 2.76 ERA in a 7-4 record last season and boasts a career 11.2 strikeouts per nine innings, anchors a strong Reds rotation. His potential absence for any significant period would be a considerable blow to the team's hopes. Despite this uncertainty, team management has stated they are not currently exploring options to acquire additional starting pitchers.
