Summary
- Blake Dunn experienced right elbow discomfort during Friday's game.
- An X-ray for Dunn's elbow showed no immediate issues.
- Nick Krall discussed player development challenges within the Reds' system.

Cincinnati Reds outfielder Blake Dunn departed Friday's game against the Pirates with discomfort in his right elbow. The injury occurred after Dunn made a throw home on a sacrifice fly, and he was unable to continue between innings. Manager Terry Francona indicated that Dunn's elbow "grabbed at him" during the play and subsequent attempts to swing were difficult.
An X-ray performed on Dunn's elbow revealed no immediate issues, which Francona believed was expected. The team plans to have Dunn undergo further evaluation on Saturday morning to determine the extent of the problem. Dunn has been a regular in center field for the Reds this season, particularly since TJ Friedl was optioned to Triple-A.
Separately, Reds President of Baseball Operations Nick Krall discussed the organization's approach to player development. Krall noted that development is not always linear and highlighted Dunn as a positive example of a player progressing effectively at the major league level. However, he also acknowledged that some prospects have taken longer than anticipated to develop or have not met expectations at the big league level, citing Christian Encarnacion-Strand, Rece Hinds, Will Benson, Matt McLain, and Noelvi Marte as examples.
Krall emphasized the organization's need to improve its internal talent development pipeline to foster consistent contention within the division. Should Dunn face a significant absence, Dane Myers is the anticipated successor for regular playing time in center field.
