Red Sox face tough call on Trevor Story's return
27 Aug
Summary
- Trevor Story seeks return despite low batting average in rehab games.
- Red Sox performance improved significantly in his absence.
- Player's defensive metrics and recent play raise concerns for team.
Trevor Story is aiming to return to the Boston Red Sox lineup this weekend for a crucial series against the New York Yankees. The veteran infielder has been sidelined since May 14, undergoing surgery for a sports hernia. While Story himself is eager to play, his recent performance in Triple-A Worcester has been lackluster, batting just .305 in 30 plate appearances.
This situation presents a difficult decision for the Red Sox management. The team has actually thrived in Story's absence, boasting a 56-36 record in games he has missed, a stark contrast to their 17-24 start with him in the lineup earlier in the season. Furthermore, other players like Andruw Monasterio and Nick Sogard have stepped up significantly, making Story's return potentially disruptive to the team's current chemistry and success.
