The Boston Red Sox have officially selected RHP Wyatt Olds to their active Major League roster, promoting him from Triple-A Worcester. This move fills a bullpen spot, with LHP Raymond Burgos being optioned down to Triple-A in a corresponding transaction announced on Monday, August 18, 2026.
Olds, a seventh-round pick in the 2021 MLB Draft, has steadily progressed through the Red Sox farm system. In 2024, he recorded 109 strikeouts in 78.1 innings pitched across Double-A and Triple-A, despite a 6.09 ERA. His performance improved in 2025 with a 5.05 ERA and 77 strikeouts in 71.1 innings.
This season, 2026, Olds has posted a 5.33 ERA with 74 strikeouts in 50.2 innings. His primary strength is a powerful upper-90s fastball that generates high strikeout numbers. Although control was a concern, he has shown substantial improvement in 2026, significantly reducing his walk rate.
