Red Sox Pitcher Early Lands on IL
2 Jul
Summary
- Connelly Early placed on 15-day IL with left elbow inflammation.
- Jovani Moran activated from IL; Alec Gamboa recalled.
- Early's rookie season stats: 7-5 record, 3.44 ERA.

The Boston Red Sox announced on Wednesday, July 2, 2026, that starting pitcher Connelly Early has been placed on the 15-day injured list. The reason cited for this move is left elbow inflammation. Early last pitched on Tuesday, July 1, where he allowed three hits and two walks over four innings in an 8-1 loss.
In corresponding moves, the Red Sox activated left-hander Jovani Moran from the injured list, having also dealt with elbow inflammation. Additionally, lefty Alec Gamboa was recalled from Triple-A Worcester, and right-hander Tommy Kahnle was designated for assignment.
Early, a 24-year-old rookie, has had a promising season thus far, recording a 7-5 record with a 3.44 ERA. He has also accumulated 34 walks and 93 strikeouts across 91 2/3 innings pitched. An MRI was scheduled for Wednesday to assess the full extent of his injury.
Interim manager Chad Tracy expressed that while Early felt better, the soreness necessitated the IL placement. Tracy emphasized the decision was made to protect the young pitcher, especially with only one start remaining before the All-Star break. Kahnle, who gave up four runs in his last outing, was removed from the roster. Moran, who had been on the IL, returns to the pitching staff.
