Roman Anthony was a key player, driving in three runs and matching his career high. He opened the scoring with a home run in the first inning and later hit a two-run single in the second, contributing to Boston's early lead. Despite the Rays' pitching staff walking nine batters, they managed to hold the Rays to just five hits.

The Rays, who possess one of the best records in the league and were near clinching home-field advantage, struggled with runners in scoring position, going hitless in 13 at-bats and leaving 12 runners stranded. This offensive inefficiency proved costly against the Red Sox, who arrived at their hotel close to 5 a.m. after a prior game.

Despite facing challenges with available players and a late arrival, the Red Sox displayed more energy.
