The Boston Red Sox announced on Tuesday their acquisition of outfielder/designated hitter Jahmai Jones from the Detroit Tigers. This transaction was completed in exchange for a player to be named later.
In order to accommodate Jones on the active roster, the Red Sox have optioned infielder/outfielder Nate Eaton to their Triple-A affiliate, Worcester. Eaton has played in 14 games for Boston this season, with additional experience in Triple-A.
Jones, 28, was designated for assignment by the Tigers on July 9. In 2025, he batted .287 with 7 home runs and 23 RBI in 72 games for Detroit. He also appeared in four postseason games. Jones has played in 198 career Major League games across several organizations since being drafted in 2015.
