Canary rockfish typically weigh around 3 pounds, though they can reach up to 10 pounds and 2.5 feet in length. Walsh's catch measured 2.25 feet long, significantly exceeding the usual size. He has submitted the details to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife and the International Game Fish Association for verification.
The current California state record for a canary rockfish is 9 pounds, caught in Mendocino County last November. The IGFA world record, also 10 pounds, was caught in Florida in 1986. After documenting the catch, Walsh and his family prepared and enjoyed the delicious rockfish.
