Madrid's Dire Season Ends vs. Relegated Oviedo

Real Madrid is set to host Real Oviedo on Thursday, May 14th, in what has become a largely ceremonial La Liga matchday 36 fixture. The home side is looking to close out a disappointing season on a more positive note, especially after suffering a significant 2-0 defeat to arch-rivals Barcelona in their recent El Clasico encounter. That loss, which effectively sealed Barcelona's league title retention, capped a turbulent period for Real Madrid.

Meanwhile, Real Oviedo's return to La Liga has lasted just one season, with their relegation confirmed following a goalless draw against Getafe. This stalemate left them rooted to the foot of the table, having secured only 29 points from 35 matches. The upcoming game offers Real Madrid a chance to deliver a strong performance against a team that has struggled throughout the campaign, potentially lifting the mood after a week marred by internal unrest and disappointing results.
