Tampa Bay Rays starting pitcher Shane McClanahan was removed from Thursday's game against the Texas Rangers in the fourth inning due to reported back tightness. The left-hander had been effective prior to his exit, having not allowed a hit through the first three innings. He had thrown 49 pitches before being replaced by Casey Legumina.

This early departure is particularly notable given McClanahan's recent injury history. The 29-year-old hurler had missed the previous two-plus seasons. He underwent Tommy John surgery in August 2023, which sidelined him for the entire 2024 season. Further complicating his return, he experienced nerve irritation in his left triceps during spring training ahead of the 2025 campaign, ultimately requiring surgery that August.
