The Baltimore Ravens have released undrafted rookie quarterback Diego Pavia, a Heisman Trophy finalist. This decision came less than a week before the start of training camp.
Pavia was waived to accommodate the signing of free-agent center Ethan Pocic, who officially joined the team after passing his physical. Pocic signed a one-year contract on Thursday.
With Pavia's departure, the Ravens' quarterback room now consists of Lamar Jackson, Tyler Huntley, Skylar Thompson, and undrafted rookie Joe Fagnano. Baltimore typically keeps only two quarterbacks on its active 53-man roster.
Pavia, who finished second in the Heisman Trophy balloting to Fernando Mendoza, was signed by the Ravens as a college free agent on April 28. His college coach, Clark Lea, has a close relationship with Ravens head coach Jesse Minter.
