Rangers Prospect Spence Shines in College Hockey Debut

As of November 14th, 2025, freshman forward Malcolm Spence has been making waves with the University of Michigan's hockey team. Spence, who was drafted by the New York Rangers in the 2nd round of the 2025 NHL Draft, has quickly become a key player for the Wolverines, who are currently ranked #2 in the NCAA.

Despite going undrafted in the first round, much to the surprise of those who know him, Spence has used the experience as motivation. The 19-year-old from the Toronto area has impressed his coach, Brandon Naurato, with his energy, skill, and leadership on the ice. Spence has four goals and eight points so far this season, while playing on both special teams units.

Naurato is excited about Spence's potential, saying "The sky's the limit, man." The coach believes Spence's athleticism and speed could make him a "beast" at the NHL level in the coming years. Spence's former junior coach, Chris Stevenson, agrees, noting that the bigger the stage, the more Spence seems to thrive.

With the Rangers lacking high-ceiling prospects, Spence's development will be closely watched. For now, he is focused on enjoying his college experience and continuing to improve his game, with the goal of one day playing professionally.
