Garand's Prospect Status Questioned Despite Strong NHL Debut

New York Rangers goaltending prospect Dylan Garand has faced a surprising setback, being left off Daily Faceoff's top 25 goalie prospect list for the upcoming season. Garand, who was ranked in previous years, now appears in a section for players also considered, alongside other emerging talents. This demotion comes despite Garand's impressive NHL debut last season. In three starts, he posted a 2-0-1 record with a .948 save percentage, saving 3.9 goals above expected. He also served as the primary goaltender for the Hartford Wolf Pack in the AHL. The Rangers also acquired veteran Joonas Korpisalo from the Boston Bruins in an offseason trade. Korpisalo's presence likely positions him as the frontrunner for the backup role behind starter Igor Shesterkin. Garand is no longer waiver-exempt, presenting a potential challenge if the Rangers decide to send him to the AHL, as another team could claim him off waivers.
