New York Rangers netminder Igor Shesterkin sustained a significant lower-body injury during the first period of Monday night's game against the Utah Mammoth. The incident occurred as JJ Peterka drove towards the net, with Shesterkin's right leg appearing to get trapped in an unnatural position.
Shesterkin remained on the ice for over a minute in apparent agony before being helped off by a trainer. He was visibly unable to put any weight on his injured right leg. Jonathan Quick has since taken over goaltending duties for the Rangers.
Shesterkin, who has been a key player for the team this season, was immediately ruled out for the rest of the game. In 33 appearances this season, the 30-year-old goalie has compiled a 17-12-4 record, accompanied by a .912 save percentage and a 2.47 goals against average.
