Raiders Lean on Inexperienced Talent to Salvage Season

As the 2022 NFL season reaches its midpoint, the Las Vegas Raiders find themselves in a precarious position. Heading into the offseason, the team recognized the need to bolster their skill positions and addressed this through the draft. However, their top draft picks have largely failed to make an impact so far.

The Raiders used three of their first four selections in the 2022 NFL Draft on offensive skill players, hoping to provide a much-needed boost to their struggling offense. Unfortunately, only one of these rookies, Ashton Jeanty, has managed to make a significant contribution. The lack of production from second-round pick Jack Bech and fourth-round pick Dont'e Thornton has been a major disappointment.

With the Raiders sitting at a dismal 2-7 record and having recently traded away veteran wide receiver Jakobi Meyers, the time has come for the team to lean heavily on their young, inexperienced talent. Head coach Pete Carroll has emphasized the importance of playing young players and getting them up to speed, but Bech and Thornton have struggled to make an impact so far.
