1 Mar
Summary
- QB Mendoza asked if he should get arrested to improve draft stock.
- Mendoza seeks to emulate Tom Brady's system and discipline.
- Analyst doubts Mendoza's top prospect status compared to Ty Simpson.
Fernando Mendoza, the projected number one pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, revealed a peculiar question he received during interviews: 'Hey, maybe you should get arrested.' He interpreted this as a suggestion to intentionally lower his draft position.
Mendoza also expressed admiration for Tom Brady, stating he would want to learn Brady's "system and his discipline" if drafted by the Las Vegas Raiders. He sees Brady as a player he has always emulated.
Despite strong buzz, some analysts are not fully convinced of Mendoza's top prospect standing. Dan Orlovsky compared Mendoza's early-season tape to Ty Simpson's, noting a preference for RPOs and back-shoulder fades in Mendoza's play and unnecessary scrambling when initial reads are covered. The Scouting Combine is scheduled to conclude on Sunday, March 1, 2026.
