Detroit PWHL Team Trades Draft Pick for Star

The Professional Women's Hockey League (PWHL) franchise in Detroit has made significant strides in building its inaugural roster, having secured 10 players as of Monday, June 15. The league also revealed the draft order for the upcoming 2026 PWHL Draft, scheduled to take place at the Fox Theater in Detroit on Wednesday. Initially, Detroit was slated to pick third overall in the draft.

However, in a surprising development, PWHL Detroit's General Manager, Manon Rheaume, has reportedly traded the team's third overall pick to PWHL Las Vegas. This trade is in exchange for the acquisition of star forward Hilary Knight, a prominent member of the U.S. Women's National Team. The trade, which cannot be officially processed until June 16, signifies a major move for Detroit's expansion franchise.
