No. 5 Purdue secured an impressive 79-72 victory against Iowa on Wednesday night, extending their winning streak to eight games. Guard Braden Smith was instrumental in the comeback, scoring all 16 of his points in the second half and tying the Big Ten record for assists in conference play with his 478th career assist.
The Boilermakers, now 16-1 overall and 6-0 in the Big Ten, overcame a significant nine-point deficit in the second half. Iowa had built a 48-39 lead, but Smith ignited a crucial 14-4 run that ultimately put Purdue ahead for good.
Despite the loss, Iowa's Bennett Stirtz led all scorers with 19 points. The Hawkeyes, who fell to 12-5, now face a 10-game losing streak against top-10 opponents since the 2021-22 season. Both teams are scheduled for road games on Saturday.
