Pucovski Sues School Over Career-Ending Concussion
26 Aug
Summary
- Will Pucovski is suing Brighton Grammar over a 2014 concussion.
- He claims the injury worsened over 13 subsequent concussions.
- The lawsuit alleges a coach directed aggressive play during training.

Will Pucovski, a former Test cricketer, is pursuing legal action against Brighton Grammar, his former school, concerning a concussion sustained during an Australian rules football training session in May 2014. Pucovski, who medically retired from cricket at 27 last April due to recurring head injuries, alleges that the 2014 incident was the first of at least 13 concussions that ultimately ended his career.
His legal team claims that a coach directed students to engage in aggressive contact during the drill, resulting in Pucovski being knocked unconscious after a teammate's knee to his temple. Despite the injury, Pucovski reportedly returned to the drill later that day. Lawyers allege the coach lacked appropriate accreditation and failed to arrange immediate medical assessment for the then-16-year-old.
The lawsuit further contends that Brighton Grammar was vicariously liable for a breach of duty of care. Pucovski experienced persistent headaches, vision problems, migraines, and mental health issues, including OCD and anxiety, following the 2014 incident. The school has stated it will not comment further due to the ongoing legal proceedings.
