Friars Land Historic 5-Star Recruit
29 Oct
Summary
- Five-star center Lewis Uvwo committed to Providence.
- Uvwo is ranked No. 7 nationally in the 2027 class.
- This is Providence's highest-ranked recruit ever.
Providence has secured a significant commitment from five-star center Lewis Uvwo, a pivotal addition for first-year coach Bryan Hodgson. Uvwo, ranked seventh nationally in the 2027 class and the top center prospect, chose Providence over Kentucky, Baylor, and California.
This commitment is historically significant for Providence, as Uvwo is tied with previous stars Ricky Ledo and Kris Dunn for the highest recruit ranking in the program's history. It also marks only the third five-star recruit secured by the Friars in the 247Sports era.
Coach Hodgson's pitch, emphasizing the program's culture and his vision, resonated with Uvwo. The recruitment win serves as an early testament to Hodgson's ability to attract top talent. While Uvwo's commitment provides a foundation, Providence still needs to build its roster around the highly-touted center.
Uvwo's decision highlights how recruiting landscapes can shift when players see opportunities to shape a program's future. For Providence, it signals an ambitious direction under Hodgson's leadership.
