Global Hoops League Taps FIFA World Cup Broadcaster

A new global offseason basketball league, Project B, is slated to begin play in November 2026, adopting a Formula 1-style model. The league has secured Host Broadcast Services (HBS), known for broadcasting the FIFA World Cup, as its official broadcaster. All games will be streamed live on YouTube, with HBS managing full broadcast production and specialized content capture.

Project B aims to offer a global stage for both men and women, with plans for six teams of eleven players each in separate leagues. The inaugural season will run from November 2026 to April 2027, featuring city-hosted events. Tokyo, Japan, is the sole announced host city for a March 26 to April 4 event at the Toyota Arena.

The league has assembled a diverse women's roster featuring 14 players from 10 countries. Notable names include WNBA stars like Awa Fam, Alanna Smith, Jewell Loyd, and Nneka Ogwumike. Project B promises salaries significantly higher than any previously seen in women's sports, a notable commitment following the WNBA's recent historic collective bargaining agreement.

Key figures backing Project B include WNBA Champion Alana Beard as Chief Basketball Officer, and investors such as Maverick Carter, Novak Djokovic, and Sloane Stephens. The league aims to create new opportunities for athletes globally, ensuring they are seen and celebrated by fans worldwide.
