The Portland Trail Blazers are embarking on a new chapter under new ownership, led by Tom Dundon. The NBA Board of Governors recently approved the reported $4.25 billion sale of the team, with the new ownership group officially taking charge on Tuesday. Dundon, who also has experience with the NHL's Carolina Hurricanes, stated that the franchise's focus is shifting decisively from developing young talent to actively pursuing championships.
Dundon emphasized that while past development phases were necessary, the priority is now on cultivating winning habits and achieving the success that he and others expect. The Trail Blazers are currently in contention for a play-in spot in the Western Conference. This acquisition also includes the Rip City Remix G League team and the management of the Moda Center.
The sale of the Trail Blazers follows a significant development for the Moda Center itself, as the Oregon Legislature approved funds for its renovation in early March. Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen, who purchased the team in 1988 for $70 million, stipulated in his will that his teams be sold, with proceeds directed to philanthropy. His estate began the process of selling the Seahawks in mid-February.
